What Vermin Cavity Mesh Is Used For?
Vermin cavity mesh is designed to stop pests and debris from entering the wall or roof cavities without impeding ventilation or water egress. It is typically installed at:
- The base of wall cladding systems (such as standing seam, interlocking panels, Snap lock or nailstrip),
- The top and bottom of cavity battens,
- Around eaves, parapets, or ventilation gaps.
By sealing these gaps with mesh, the system maintains continuous airflow, which is essential for condensation management and the longevity of the building envelope, while also ensuring vermin cannot nest or cause damage inside the structure.
Key Functions
- 🛡️ Pest Exclusion: Prevents rodents, birds, and insects from entering wall or roof cavities.
- 🌬️ Ventilation: Mesh apertures are small enough to block vermin but large
- enough to permit airflow for condensation control.
- 💧 Drainage: Allows water to escape from cavity bases, ensuring compliance with NCC and AS1562.1 requirements for moisture management.
- 🧱 Durability: Often made from aluminium, stainless steel, or galvanised steel to resist corrosion and deformation.
Typical Applications
- Behind rainscreen cladding and metal wall systems (e.g. Colorbond®, zinc, or aluminium facades)
- At the base of parapet walls or soffit junctions
- In ventilated facades and roof cavities where openings must remain breathable
